Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the Jiangxi Party of Regional Geological Survey (1963) and published by the Compiling Group of Regional Stratigraphical Scale of Jiangxi Province in 1980. The type section is located at Xiajiaqiao, 20 km northwest to the Wuning County, Jiangxi Province.

Synonym: (夏家桥组)


Lithology and Thickness

The formation, 680 m thick at the type section locality, is composed of gray green silty mudstone, mudstone interbedded with siltstone and fine-grained sandstone, purplish red siltstone, pelite and micritic sandstone, often intercalated with yellow green, gray green silty or micritic sandstone. The gray green thick-bedded sandstone is common at the lower part of this formation.

Lower contact

It is conformably overlying the Qingshui Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Xikeng Fm

Regional extent

The formation is distributed in northwestern Jiangxi.

Fossils

The formation is rich in fossils of trilobites Rongxiella, Kailia, Coronaspis, Coronocephalus; brachiopods Eospirifer, Striispirifer, Nalivkinia, Nucleospira;bivalves Actinopteria, Leptodesma, Orthonota and gastropods, etc.
